Global deaths from air pollution by region 1990-2019

East Asia and Pacific and South Asia are the regions that suffer the most deaths attributable to air pollution. In 2019, air pollution exposure caused more than two million deaths in each of these regions, with the majority of those deaths occurring in China and India.

Since 1990, the annual number of deaths has increased in most regions, except for in North America, Europe and Central Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean.
