Transportation fatalities by mode in the United States 2020
In 2020, the number of transportation fatalities in the U.S. amounted to 40,851 deaths, 95 percent of which is attributed to motor vehicle fatalities at public highways. In the same year, only 0.7 percent of the total transportation casualties occurred in the public transit networks in the U.S.
