It can be seen that during this period the average interest rate of loans up to one million euros to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Austria decreased from over five percent in 2007 to under two percent in 2018. The highest interest rate during this time period was seen in 2008 where it reached nearly 5.5 percent.
