In 2022, there were more new housing starts in the South of the United States than in every other region of the country combined. The West was the second region with the highest number of housing starts, which amounted to roughly 400,800 units in 2021. Northeast was the only region in the U.S. that experienced an increase in the number of housing starts in 2022.
