In 2021, Argentinean laboratory Roemmers held the top spot in the country's pharmaceutical industry in terms of sales revenue, with a value of roughly 538 million U.S. dollars. Elea Phoenix, another domestic lab, came in second with a sales turnover of approximately 497 million U.S. dollars, while the French pharmaceutical company Sanofi Aventis registered sales in Argentina worth around 203 million U.S. dollars.

The pharmaceutical industry in Argentina

In 2021, sales of the Argentinean pharmaceutical industry amounted to approximately six billion U.S. dollars, marking a growth of roughly 25 percent compared to the previous year. During that period, the industry provided direct employment to roughly 43 thousand people and indirectly created job opportunities for around 120 thousand workers. Simultaneously, the number of pharmaceutical facilities in the country totaled 354 units.

International trade

Between 2014 and 2021, Argentinean imports of pharmaceutical products exceeded the country's exports by at least 1.3 billion U.S. dollars, with the trade deficit of these goods reaching approximately 2.42 billion U.S. dollars in 2021. By the end of that period, the United States and China were the leading countries of origin for pharmaceutical products imported into Argentina, with roughly 494 million and 474 million U.S. dollars, respectively.
