The aviation and aerospace industries are made up of both airlines and aircraft manufacturers, as well as all companies dealing with the production of spacecrafts and satellites. The development of revenue in the German aviation and aerospace industries has been pointing upward for years. While the industry generated 14.8 billion euros worth of revenue in 2000, in 2013 the amount was already more than 30 billion euros.

The number of employees in the German aviation and aerospace industries also reached a new record high with over 105,000 employees. The largest revenue share in the aviation and aerospace industries falls upon the civil aviation sector, ahead of defense and security, as well as space travel.
The U.S. are the country with the largest revenue share in the aviation and aerospace industries at over 40 percent. The revenue of Boeing alone amounted to over 86 billion U.S. dollars in 2013. European countries reached a share of 38 percent together.
