Industry revenue of »retail sale in non-specialised stores« in Czechia 2011-2023

Revenues from the retail sale in non-specialised stores in Czech Republic, which includes food retail and retail of several other lines of merchandise such as apparel, furniture and cosmetics, are projected to rise from 15.4 billion U.S. dollars in 2011 to 21.8 billion U.S. dollars by 2023. This can be attributed to the growth in private label brands, especially in supermarkets and hypermarkets, favorable pricing strategies, the growing consumer incomes and a robust distribution network, which is entirely privatized. Supermarkets and hypermarkets dominate the space, accounting for nearly 50 percent of the retail trade. Amongst the most popular supermarket and hypermarket chains in the country include Tesco, Lidl, Coop, Penny Market, Kaufland and Globus.

One of the key challenges for brick and mortar retailers in the medium to the long term is the increasing completion from their online counterparts, which are growing at a rapid pace owing to the free last mile delivery services on offer and a wide product variety. As a result, many of them have adopted an omnichannel strategy.
