Industry revenue of “Automobile and light-duty motor vehicle manufacturing“ in Canada 2011-2023

The Canadian automotive manufacturing industry, which weathered some tough times previously, has now rebounded to a certain extent. In fact, the country is now one of the largest manufacturers of light duty vehicles with five global OEMS: FCA, Ford, GM, Honda and Toyota, assembling over 2 million vehicles at their Canadian facilities annually. One of the main factors driving these levels of products is a vibrant ecosystem consisting of 700 auto component suppliers, including indigenous Tier 1 firms such as Magna, Linamar and Martinrea.

However, its overall manufacturing ability across various automotive sub-sectors has diminished over the years, with the future also expected to witness a marginal decline. Total revenues in the Canadian automobile and light-duty motor vehicle manufacturing industry are expected to decline marginally from 47 million U.S. dollars in 2018 to 46.3 million U.S. dollars in 2023.

Trucks manufacturing scores over cars

Over the years Canada has become a major manufacturer of light, medium and heavy trucks with over double the number of units being manufactured as compared to cars. Therefore it is no surprise that the value of truck sales in the country more than doubled during the period 2010-2018, increasing from 33.3 billion Canadian dollars to over 67 billion. Heavy truck production also experienced robust growth in terms of units produced increasing from 9,873 in 2013 to 20,911 in 2018.
