Revenue forecast in selected countries in the Travel & Tourism market in 2019

Revenues from global international tourism have risen steadily from 475 million U.S. dollars in 2000 to as much as 1.4 billion U.S. dollars in 2018, with the U.S. and China being the two largest markets. The contribution of the overall travel & tourism market is even more robust with domestic and international travellers accounting for almost 1.6 trillion U.S. dollars to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2018. Leisure spending accounted for around 70% of this contribution with business spending constituting the remaining share.

This heavy influx of in-bound travellers has played a key role in driving revenues in the U.S.’ hotel industry, which grew from 142 billion U.S. dollars in 2010 to as much as 218 billion U.S. dollars in 2018. Interestingly, domestic travellers consistently outspent their international counterparts, by over five times in 2018, with values of 933 billion U.S. dollars and 156 billion U.S. dollars respectively. In Europe, the UK leads the travel & tourism market with revenues of 34.3 billion U.S. dollars in 2019.
