Usage of voice assistants among French internet users 2019, by device

In 2019, voice assistants were more popular than ever among the French population, so much so that 39 percent of respondents used a voice assistant via their smartphone, making it the most-used device. According to the same study, 10 percent of respondents claimed to have used a voice assistant through a connected speaker.

French smart speaker market

Although owning a smart speaker is not that common in France, the number of households having one increased sharply between 2017 and 2019 and should reach more than a third of households by 2025. However, while increasing, smart speaker sales in France are still way under the numbers obtained in Germany or the United-Kingdom.

A growing audience

In 2019, 26 percent of the respondents aged from 35 to 49 years old used a voice assistant, either on a smartphone or on smart speakers, whereas 52 percent of voice assistant users were women.
