El Salvador: food insecurity prevalence 2014-2018, by severity The share of population who experience severe food insecurity in El Salvador was estimated at 12.7 percent between 2016 and 2018, which represents a decrease on the figures for the previous three-year period. Additionally, the degree of moderate or severe food insecurity has also decreased since the previous three-year period, falling from 42.3 percent of the population to 40 percent. According to the source, a person is considered food insecure when they lack regular access to enough safe and nutritious food to lead an active and healthy life.
