Latin America & Caribbean: informal employment share by country 2019

In 2016, the percentage of informal employment in Latin America and the Caribbean was estimated at an average of 53.1 percent. Among the countries shown in the graph, Bolivia had the highest share of employment informality, amounting to almost 81 percent of the total employed population. This means that around eight every ten workers in Bolivia were informally employed as of 2018. Uruguay was one of the countries with the lowest share of informal employment in the region, with nearly one quarter of the employed population being informally employed.
