Number of electric vehicles circulating in Italy 2018, by type

As of 2018, the most widespread type of electric vehicle in Italy were passenger cars. An estimated 22,000 units were in use in the country, considering both battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). By comparison, there were 4,563 light-duty electric vehicles and 2,920 electric motorbikes in circulation. However, the number of e-cars accounted for less than one percent of the total cars in use in the country.
