Although Belgium in general is not a dangerous country, murder and manslaughter cases in the Brussels-Capital Region have been on the rise for the last decade, peaking in 2018 at 194 cases. The lowest number of registered cases, on the other hand, were reported in 2010. Manslaughter refers to the killing of a human being without malice aforethought, whereas murder is the premeditated killing of one human being. As of the first half of 2019, 74 cases of murder and manslaughter were registered.
