A Statista study on luxury tourism projected that this segment in Mexico could have suffered a strong backslide due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. That year, the revenue of domestic luxury tourism in the country was estimated to have dropped nearly 73 percent compared to 2019, while the international sector could have generated more than 83 percent less during that period. Moreover, while the latter sector's annual revenues are expected to surpass those from 2019 by 2023, Mexico's domestic luxury tourism may still be struggling in 2024 to reach the revenues registered prior to the pandemic.
