German military and navy structures restrictions outlined in the Treaty of Versailles
Following the ratification of the Treaty of Versailles, firm restrictions were placed on the German military, most notably, the entire army was restricted to just 100,000 men, while the navy was reduced to just 15,000 men. In addition to this, the number of officers for both branches of the German military had strict limitations placed on it, while the number of divisions and administrative headquarters were also restricted. Article 160 of the treaty even specified the total number of government positions in the German Ministry of War. Along with setting restrictions, the German government was forbidden from manufacturing any submarines, tanks, war planes, poison gas or any other military materiel outside of the vehicles, weapons and ammunitions specified in the Treaty.
