Cash was the preferred payment method among households in the Dominican Republic in 2018, according to a survey. Nearly 96 percent of respondents purchased their groceries in cash, while other goods and services were paid likewise by 90 percent of surveyed households. Bank transfers, as well as credit and debit cards were used by 8.2 percent of Dominican households to pay for goods and services, while 2.9 percent used them to buy food and beverages.
