Medal count by country in the Men's 20km Race Walk at the Summer Olympics 1956-2020
The Men's 20 kilometer Race Walk has been included at all Summer Olympics since it was introduced in 1956. Between 1956 and 1980, the Soviet Union was the most successful nation in this event, winning three gold medals and nine total medals. East German and Mexican athletes also performed well in the event in the late twentieth century, and in the past two events, Chinese athletes have won four of the six medals available. The event's most successful athlete is Volodymyr Holubnychy, who won two golds, one silver and one bronze medal for the Soviet Union between 1960 and 1972. No athlete has ever been stripped of a medal won in this event.
