Over 2 million people claimed unemployment benefits in the United Kingdom in April 2020, a huge increase of over over 850 thousand people when compared with March 2020. The Coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdown has played havoc with the UK economy, seeing monthly GDP fall by 5.8 percent, and around 7.5 million workers put on furlough.
