Ranking of single-core processors by Geekbench score performance worldwide 2020

As of October 2020, the Intel Core i7-1165G7 processor achieved the best average single-core performance with a score of 1,474 from the Geekbench benchmarking tests. Of the ten highest scoring processors for single-core performance, Intel accounted for eight processors whilst AMD had two processors featured.

Intel processors

The x86 is a family of instruction set architectures (ISA) for computer processors, also called central processing units (CPUs), which were initially developed by Intel. The company’s Client Computing Group (CCG) is responsible for sales of mobile processors used in PCs, otherwise known as Intel Core processors. In September 2020, Intel released their eleventh generation of mobile processors, codenamed Tiger Lake.

AMD processors

AMD also designs processors utilizing x86 architecture, with the company’s ‘computing and graphics’ segment including both desktop and notebook processors. AMD, like Intel, also designs processors for use in alternative markets other than PCs, for example in data centers and high-performance computing (HPC). AMD’s ‘enterprise, embedded and semi-custom' segment also includes semi-custom system-on-chips (SoCs), a type of processor that can be found in PlayStation and Xbox games consoles.

Supplementary notes

Scores are calculated through a number of different tests, or workloads, to measure CPU performance. Scores are calibrated against a baseline score of 1000 (which is the score of an Intel Core i3-8100). Higher scores are better, with double the score indicating double the performance.
