The U.S. semiconductor company Intel ranked first, with a sales volume of more than 56.3 billion U.S. dollars in 2016. Semiconductors are a crucial element of modern electronic devices. In 2010, the global semiconductor industry registered an unprecedented year-on-year revenue growth rate of 31.8 percent. While post-2010 growth has been less impressive, it has generally hovered between 0 and 10 percent year-on-year. 2015 saw a slight decline, while 2016 growth was slight. Intel, the world’s largest semiconductor chip maker, had 15.9 percent of the total semiconductor market share. Intel’s main business lies in the manufacturing of semiconductor chips, accounting for a significant portion of Intel's net revenue.
