As of April 2023, the Indian state of Bihar, with over 1.37 million smart meters, had the highest number of smart meters installed across the country. This was followed by Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. The installation of smart meters was mainly undertaken by the agencies Energy Efficiency Services Limited, PFC Consulting Limited, and REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited.
