Japan: number of e-money terminals 2022

As of December 2023, the number of pre-paid electronic money terminals in Japan reached over eight million. That year, consumers made around 6.16 billion e-money transactions worth over 6.4 trillion Japanese yen. Japanese electronic money service providers offered their first pre-paid e-money cards in the early 2000s.
