In 2018, over 2.2 million employees in Tokyo Prefecture, Japan, underwent periodic health examinations organized by around 15.6 thousand business enterprises located in the prefecture. That year, approximately 13.6 million Japanese employees were examined at the medical checkups offered by the workplace across the country. Under the Industrial Safety and Health Act enacted in 1972, it is mandatory for companies in Japan to offer health checks for their employees at least once a year.
