Japan: education expenses of the governments by purpose

In the fiscal year 2018, the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and local governments spent close to six trillion Japanese yen to support elementary schools in the country. Around 4.3 trillion yen were utilized for assisting the educational activities of higher education institutions such as universities and junior colleges.
