International shipping CO2 emissions outlook worldwide 2019-2070
Global emissions from international shipping are expected to reach 709 million metric tons of CO2 in 2025. However, under the IEA's "Sustainable Development Scenario", in which the use of alternative fuels such as hydrogen, ammonia, and biofuels have increased, CO2 emissions from shipping could fall considerably in the coming decades. Under this scenario, emissions from the international shipping sector are projected to drop to 120 million metric tons of CO2 by 2070.
