COSCO SHIPPING Lines' CO2 emissions 2017-2021
In 2020, COSCO reported emissions amounting to almost 16.7 million metric tons, which was a decrease of about 20 percent compared to the year 2020. This was a significant improvement considering the relatively insignificant decrease in 2 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in 2020. Between 2017 and 2019, COSCO SHIPPING Lines' carbon emissions increased by more than six million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, rising from roughly 15 to over 21.4 million metric tons of CO2. The gains in efficiency of their vessels were not sufficient to compensate for the increase in container freight transported.
