With around 99 percent of the fleet, diesel was the most common fuel type for medium and heavy commercial vehicles in use in the United Kingdom in 2019. It dwarfed all other fuel types, including alternative and more sustainable fuels. However, there has been a year-on-year rise in the use of hybrid and plug-in electric vehicles from 2018 to 2019, both types of vehicles now making up some 0.2 and 0.1 percent, respectively.
