In 2020, 78 percent of respondents to a survey on gambling habits before and during the coronavirus pandemic indicated that they gambled online during the pandemic. During the pandemic, the number of people gambling online increased while gambling at pubs, clubs and casinos decreased.

Respondents were asked to comment on their gambling frequency in the 30 days before COVID-19 restrictions (February 2020/before COVID-19) and in the 30 days before completing the survey (May-July 2020/during COVID-19).

All respondents had previously participated in gambling with 79 percent reporting having spent money on gambling at least once a week.
