Opinions on causes of corruption in Tunisia 2020
As of October 2020, a large 34 percent of the surveyed population in Tunisia believed that poverty or necessity were the greatest causes of corruption in the country. Moreover, 31 percent and 21 percent of respondents deemed the government and business leaders and oligarchs, respectively, the main ones responsible for corruption.
Similar to other countries in the Middle East and North Africa, corruption is widespread in Tunisia. It usually takes the form of bribery and extortion and is worsened by nepotism and crony capitalism. In 2019, most Tunisians believed that the levels of corruption have augmented since the 2011 Revolution.
