In 2019, close to 57 percent of caregivers in Japanese households with level five care recipients spent almost all day on nursing care. The overall average of around 19 percent of caregivers in the households used the whole day to help or support the family member. When recipients need level five care, they are bedridden and unable to eat or excrete without help.
