The number of drones in the U.S. for recreational flying has reached around 389 thousand units. This figure is apart from drones used by hobbyists, which need not be registered. The commercial drone registrations currently stand at around 390 thousand. The Federal Aviation Administration mandates registration of drone that weighs about 0.55 pounds or more (more than 250 grams) with the authorities.
