
Distribution of refugees, asylum seekers, and stateless persons in Africa 2019
About 39 percent of the global population of concern lived in Africa as of 2019. That year, the total population of concern in the continent reached 33.3 million people. This includes refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced persons (IDPs), returned refugees as well as IDPs, and stateless people. Refugees and internally displaced persons made up the largest part of the population of concern, with 19 percent and 56 percent of the total, respectively.
