In 2020, current health care expenditure in Ireland was estimated to be 26.4 billion euros, a 10.9 percent increase from 2019 figures. Of this, 2.4 billion euros was estimated to have been COVID-19 related expenditure, such as 373 million euros on COVID-related treatment costs and 1,343 million euros on COVID-related health care costs (with a large share spent on personal protective equipment, swab kits, and ventilators).
