Apartments repurposed from most commonly converted buildings in the U.S. 2019-2021
Office buildings were the most repurposed type of buildings into apartments in the United States from 2019 to 2021. The number of converted apartments from office spaces increased from 3,723 to 7,415 in this period, an increase of over 100 percent. Factory buildings and hotels were also commonly adapted into apartments. Following a period of year on year increase, the number of apartment conversions in the U.S. fell dramatically in 2018. In 2021, however, the estimated number of conversions surged to all time highs.
