Natural gas used for electricity generation in the United Kingdom reached roughly 22 million tons of oil equivalent in 2021, up from some 19.9 million tons of oil equivalent in the previous year. Nonetheless, annual natural gas use for electricity generation in the country has seen a mostly downward trend in the past decade. In 2020, renewables surpassed natural gas for the first time as the leading source of electricity in the UK.
