
Global protected forest size and area allocated for specific uses 2020
Around 424 million hectares of forest area across the globe is designated for biodiversity conservation. This figure accounts for nearly ten percent of the forest size worldwide. Meanwhile, the area of forest used for soil and water protection amounted to 398 million hectares allocated in 2020. Furthermore, an area of roughly 186 million hectares of forest worldwide was allocated for social services, which include recreation, tourism and education research amongst others.
