
Global planted forest size as a share of total forest area 2020, by region
The total size of planted forests across the globe is approximately 294 million hectares, which represents roughly seven percent of the world's forest area. Amongst regions, East Asia has the largest area of planted forest by share of total forest size, with a figure of roughly 36 percent in 2020. Ranking second is Europe, where the proportion amounted to some 30 percent. The lowest share of planted forest is found in Western and Central Africa, with only one percent of its forests area composed of planted forests.
