In 2021, although the vast majority of art and antique auctions in China were held exclusively online, these auctions contributed only about 4.5 percent of the total sales of Chinese art and antique auctions. The popularity of online-only auctions is mainly evident for lower-value lots. Hall auctions remained the sales channel of artworks and antiques of importance, as viewings are crucial for objects of higher value.
