Tree cover loss in Algeria 2015-2022, by dominant cause
In 2022, Algeria lost over 13,440 hectares of tree cover. The main driver of tree cover loss in the country was shifting agriculture. Related to the expansion of small or medium agricultural activities, it accounted for roughly 9,850 hectares of tree cover loss in 2022. Although to a lesser extent, other leading causes were wildfire, forestry, and commodity-driven deforestation.
