Agricultural area in Algeria 2010-2020, by type

Agricultural area under permanent meadows and pastures in Algeria added up to nearly 33 million hectares in 2020. As of the same year, arable lands and permanent crops in the country occupied an area of around 7.5 million and one million hectares, respectively. Since 2010, most of the agricultural areas in Algeria have been under permanent meadows and pastures.

The agricultural sector in Algeria significantly contributes to economic growth. In 2019, it accounted for approximately 12 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The total agricultural land area in the country exceeded 41 million hectares in 2019.
