As of May 2022, the estimated number of psychologists employed in the United States ranged from 30 psychologists to 1,350, by state. California registered the highest number of psychologists, while Nebraska and South Dakota had the lowest number of psychologists. Nonetheless, these figures exclude self-employment which is fairly common among psychologists, and employed school, industrial-organizational, or clinical and counseling psychologists.
