Different end uses of cobalt require different forms of the mineral. For example, lithium-ion batteries, catalysts, soaps and dryers, and pigments consume entirely or mostly cobalt chemicals. Magnets, tool materials, and nickel-base alloys on the other hand require only metallic forms of cobalt such as powders and cathodes.
