In 2021, almost half of Russian investors reported that their start-ups were acquired by major Russian ecosystems (Sber, Yandex, MTS, etc.) and Western strategists. Late-stage funds ranked second, taking over start-ups in an estimated 16 percent of the cases.

MBO stands for management buyout, whereby a start-up's existing managers would acquire all, or a large part, of the business.
The source specifies that among the respondents 43 percent were business angels, 41 percent were representative of private funds, eight percent were representatives of corporate funds, four percent were representatives of government funds, and another four percent were "Other."
