More than half of white non-evangelical Protestants, black Protestants, Catholics, and non-religious respondents felt that abortion should be legal if the pregnancy is the result of rape. Of these groups, the belief in legality was lowest amongst Catholics at 66 percent and highest with non-religious individuals at 87 percent. Only 40 percent of white evangelical Protestants felt that it should be legal in cases of rape, while 34 percent felt that it should be illegal.
