Air pollutant emissions in Germany 1990-2020, by type
Air pollutant emissions in Germany have fallen considerably over the past three decades. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions totaled 5.46 million metric tons in 1990, but by 2020 they had fallen by 96 percent to 0.23 million metric tons. Nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions have also experienced substantial reductions, falling 66 percent between 1990 and 2020 to 0.97 million metric tons.
