Black carbon emissions in the European Union (EU-27) 2000-2021
Black carbon emissions in the European Union (EU-27) totaled 193 thousand metric tons in 2021, a decrease of 2.5 percent from 2020 levels. EU-27 black carbon emissions have fallen by 44 percent since 2000.
Black carbon (BC) is a short-lived climate pollutant, and a component of fine particulate matter. Short-lived climate pollutants have a shorter life span than carbon dioxide, but can have a greater impact on global warming.
