As of 2021, the number of urban buses in Berlin, Germany (operated by the BVG) amounted to 1,549 vehicles, from which only 8.9 percent were considered clean buses based on their propulsion type. The share of clean buses was slightly higher in Hamburg, Germany. Around 9.5 percent of the total urban bus fleet operated by the Hamburger Hochbahn corresponded to buses that did not use any type of fossil fuel to work.
