Reasons for starting a company Germany 2021

In 2021, around 41 percent of respondents in Germany stated that they started their own company so that they could have more independence. Nearly 30 percent of those asked answered that a higher income was their motivation. This survey asked 50,000 people who founded a company in Germany what their reasons were for doing so.

The statistic refers to a survey conducted within the framework of the KfW Entrepreneurship Monitor (KfW-Gründungsmonitor). In the survey 50,000 respondents were surveyed. During the process founders to whom the percentages listed in the statistic apply were identified. The KfW Entrepreneurship Monitor collects information with computer-supported telephone interviews (CATI).
