More than one-third of Americans do not drink tap water at their homes, according to a 2022 survey of more than 2,000 respondents. Only a quarter of respondents said they drink water straight from the tap, while the remaining respondents only drank tap water after filtering. This is perhaps unsurprising given that more than half of Americans think their tap water is unsafe to drink.
*The survey was open for six days in April 2022. Responses came from 2,800 people in about 1,580 unique ZIP codes in all 50 states and D.C. There were also a small number of responses from people in Canada and Mexico.
